Five Things Every Girl Needs on Her Travels

We all want to look and feel good while we're traveling the world.

Sometimes this can be a challenge especially after wandering around all day in different environments. Whether you're exploring a new city on foot, swimming in the sparkly blue ocean or hiking the Alps your body and wellbeing are exposed to the elements in every adventure. Being in the sun, the ocean or on windy mountain tops all day can be an awesome experience but it can also wear on our skin, hair and comfot level.

The following five things will help you to protect your skin and happiness while you're taking on your new adventures.

Chapstick: The skin on our lips is very thin and fragile and exposing it to the wind and sun all day can leave it feeling chapped and irritated. And for those of us with sensitive skin it can get that annoying chapped feeling rather quickly. You know the feeling. No matter how many times you lick your lips they just feel dry and cracked and it hurts to smile. But because you're so excited to be traveling the world you're smiling all day! So carrying around a tube of chapstick and reapplying all day long can keep that icky chapped feeling at bay. Also apply some to your lips right before bed so your lips are being moisturized all night long.

Hand Sanitizer: Hey it's okay to be a germaphobe! You don't want to have to take a "vacation from your vacation" when you return home because you got sick while on your travels. And you never know what kind of germs are lurking on those door handles, sink faucet knobs or on the airplane. Gazillions of people are touching the same things you are everyday. And while we love our fellow adventure seeking friends, we still need to protect ourselves, so that once we return home we can go back to work to make money to save for our next trip.

Lavender Spray: This can be a body spray which you can find at your local Whole Foods or health food store. Sometimes after walking around in a new city all day we might need to freshen up but we can't go back to our hotel. So having some lavender body spray can help you feel refreshed without having to take a shower. Lavender is known to have soothing and calming qualities and it doesn't hurt that it smells delicious too. Spray a little on yourself and your clothes for a quick pick me up and you'll feel better and probaly smell better too. You can also spray some on your bed before you go to sleep to help you sleep more soundly.

Sunscreen: This seems like a no-brainer but it's so important that it has to be included here. Even if it's cloudy or windy out and we don't feel the heat from the sun beating down on us it's still affecting our skin. UV rays from the sun is the number one cause of aging and not to mention skin cancer. And you don't want to end up with a bad sunburn while you're trying to get in as many adventures as you can on your travels. Apply and reapply your sunscreeen throughout the day. The reapply is so important. Many of us think that one application before we leave our hotel is enough but this real only lasts a few hours before it wears off. So adopt this mantra "apply and reapply!"

Toner: Why you might ask is toner on this list of top five? Toner helps to balance our skins ph level and it also helps our skin to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. After a long day of sweating in the sun a spritz or two of toner on our face, neck and decolletage can leave our skin feeling cool and moist. Carry it with you and when you get a chance find the closest bathroom, spray some cool water on your face and then spritz on your toner. You'll be amazed at how fresh you feel! And then you can make a night of it by reapplying your sunscreen, spraying yourself down with your lavender body spray, applying your chapstick and hand sanitizer and you'll feel like a new woman ready to hit the town again.

I would recommend getting some small travel sized containers and filling them with these five things (except for the chapstick which should already be small) to carry around with you. This way you're not taking up so much room in your day bag with large bottles of toner, sunscreen and body spray.
