Inspired by Burano

Beautiful places inspire me to paint.
So when I saw a photograph from a fellow traveler of the colorful island of Burano in Italy I knew I had to paint it. Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon and it could more correctly be described as an archipelago of four islands linked by bridges, very much like Venice. It's about a 45 minute boat ride from Venice to Burano.
The island of Burano is made up of picturesque canals lined with brightly colored houses.
Small boats are docked in the water channels and each channel is connected by a bridge. The island is known for its fishing and lace making. This place exudes the feeling of a dreamy paradise with the bright colors being reflected off the canal and the cheerful mood it portrays. Imagine walking along the canals and watching the fishermen display their catch of the day or checking out the ladies who do lace making. Have a nice lunch in one of the many restaurants or cafes and then grab a gelato for another stroll along the water. Just thinking about it brings about a feeling of calm and serenity!
This original painting is for sale in my shop and limited edition prints are soon to come.
Drawn with ink pens and then painted with watercolor, this 9x12 watercolor painting would look great in a matted frame. The original photographer of the photo that inspired me is Erika and you can find her on instagram at _LifeofErika_. She has tons of other grogeous photos just like this one. Burano is now definitely on my bucket list!
Is there a magical destination that inspires you?
