Traveling solo can be an amazing, life-changing experience.
It builds confidence and teaches you things about yourself which you never knew. Solo female travel is becoming increasingly popular which makes now a great time to give it a try. It can be a scary thought to be alone in a country where you've never been, but if you follow some rules and guidelines, you'll be totally safe. And in the end you'll be so happy that you took the plunge and went for it!
For those of you who have thought about traveling alone but aren't really sure where to start, I've compiled a small list of the safest and friendliest countries to visit and explore. Ireland: Known for its beautiful landscape of rolling hills and rocky coastline Ireland is a great place to start your solo adventure. The people are so friendly and kind, they'll make you feel right at home. There is so much history in this gorgeous country so be sure to check out some of the archeological sites like New Grange and the Hill of Tara. Also take a trip to the iconic Cliffs of Moher in County Clare on the west side of Ireland. And a trip to Ireland wouldn't be complete without having a Guinness in a pub in one of the many quaint towns. They also speak English which is a big help especially for your first solo adventure. If you do decide to rent a car just keep in mind (if you're from the U.S.) they drive on the other side of the road. Denmark: Denmark is said to be the happiest country in the world! Copenhagen is a great place to start your trip in Denmark. Visit Nyhavn the picturesque 17th century waterfront district known for its beautiful architecture and colors. Here you'll find great shopping, restaurants and awesome photo ops. There are also many free museums to explore. Denmark is expensive so try to shop in grocery stores for food whenever possible. You could buy some sandwich making supplies and head down to Rosenborg Castle Gardens (Kongens Have) for a nice picnic with great views. This is the oldest and most visited park in Copenhagen. New Zealand: Known for its amazing landscapes, hot springs and volcanoes, New Zealand is perfect for anyone who loves the great outdoors. Auckland is a good place to start your journey. Take a ferry out to Waiheke Island and take a boat ride out for some dolphin watching. You can also choose to take the Explorer Bus in the city which is a hop on hop off bus that stops at all the major sites. Hike up Mount Victoria (highest volcano on Auckland's North Shore) for spectacular views of the Auckland city skyline. Also be sure to check out Britomart which is a transport center with tons of great bars, restaurants and cafes. Iceland: Iceland is known for its incredible landscape which is comprised of everything from volcanoes and deep fjords to glaciers and hot springs. The city of Reykjavik is the Capitol of this gorgeous country and a good place to stay during your trip. Be sure to visit the Blue Lagoon which is one of the most famous hot springs in Iceland. There is also a sauna and a bar at the lagoon should you choose to stay there all day. Also take a visit to one of the many amazing glaciers or waterfalls throughout the country. Iceland is known to have a very low crime rate which makes it a safe destination for the first time solo female traveler. They are also known to speak English.
