For those of you who would like to have a photo from one of your favorite memories or travel experiences turned into a commission painting, here are some tips.

Close up's: The photos that turn into great paintings are usually close up's, especially for a portrait. If the objects in the picture are too far away it's hard to make out exactly what's happening in the photo and to get the details. So when choosing your photo make sure that it clearly displays the details. The only exception to this would be a cityscape scene.

Color: Try to imagine the photo you've chosen blown up and hanging on your wall in the spot you want. Do the colors match with the decor and colors in that room? This is very important because the painting you get will be much larger than the photo and most likely the colors will be brighter. You want to make sure that the colors in the photo will not clash with the colors you currently have in your home or the space you want to display your painting. Try to think in terms of complementary colors. Red goes with green, blue with orange and yellow with purple. The same goes for the different shades of each color as well. You would not want a painting with lots of yellow in it to be hung on a wall which also has yellow or even green. The colors simply do not go together.

Emotion: When you look at the photo you want a painting of, what feelings does it evoke? Pay attention to this because it will be hanging on your wall and most likely will be a centerpiece and topic of converation if you have company over. If you were to imagine yourself talking about this painting to someone would you have interesting stories to tell? Does the picture evoke feelings of joy and happiness? Is it a memory of a great experience? You see the art on your walls everyday so you want to make sure that when you look at it, it evokes good feelings within you.

These are some of the main tips to be aware of when choosing the correct photo for your commission painting. If you have more questions I am here to help! Just shoot me an email and I can help you to choose the perfect photo for your commission painting. Click this link to contact me.
